Awesome Day Trips From Alicante
The port city of Alicante is situated on the Valencian coast and with a 3 hour flight time from the UK, it is a popular destination for holidaymakers heading for the Costa Blanca sun. Though many use Alicante airport as a gateway to the beaches, the city of Alicante has a great deal to offer for a weekend break, with great resraurants and culture as well as a wealth of historic sites to discover.
If you're staying for more than a few days, consider heading outside the city to experience the best the Costa Blanca has to offer. Check out or Alicante car hire guide to make the most out of your trip.

Algar Waterfalls
Just over an hour’s drive from Alicante, the Algar Waterfalls are well worth a visit. Set in lush greenery, the dramatic waterfalls and pools are a great way to cool off from the Spanish heat. Take a walk along the bridges and walkways while admiring the natural beauty of the waterfalls. If you’re feeling brave, you can even dive off one of the boards into the turquoise waters. The Algar Waterfalls offer a welcome break form the hustle and bustle of nearby Benidorm. The water can be cold, just 17 - 19c which will be colder than the sea. There are areas for relaxing and bathing, or if you're feeling adventurous, there are designated areas for diving. Algar itself has a wide range of restaurants, most feature a swimming pool for diners to enjoy. The bottom of the pools can be sharp and rocky so some beach shoes may be useful. Algar is easily accessed on the CV-70, or by bus.
Benidorm
Around 40 minutes from Alicante along the AP-7, the vibrant resort of Benidorm is a great day out. Purpose-built for tourists, Benidorm has plenty of family-friendly attractions to keep youngsters entertained — including Mundomar (a marine life park with dolphin and sea-lion shows), Aqualandia (a large water park with an abundance of slides) and Terra Mitica (a theme park with rides to suit all ages). Benidorm is also famed for nightlife with an abundance of bars, restaurants and nightclubs catering for holidaymakers from all over the world.
Villajoyosa
The colourful town of Villajoyosa is just 10km south of Benidorm, but is a far cry from the tourist-oriented resorts along the Costa Blanca. Here you will find narrow houses along the seafront — all painted in pretty pastel hues. In the old town, there is a busy market where you can pick up locally made items, as well as a chocolate museum where you can sample some of the delights on offer. The town stretches along a beautiful beach with a wide range of shop, bar and restaurants. You can tae a boat trip over to Tabarca, an island not far from the town.
