In the simplest sense, a sandwich is a filling of meat, cheese or vegetables, between bread, and when John Montague, the Earl of Sandwich first came up with this idea in the 1800s, it really was that simple. These days though there are hundreds of variations. From the Danish Smorrebrod, to the Vietnamese Bahn Mi through to the classic Sub and the traditional Cuban Sandwich, the art of making a good sandwich has reached new heights.
