Jersey Holiday Planning Made Easy
Live like a local and check out these essential tools to help your holiday to Jersey go smoothly.
Hail a Cab - Planning the best ways to get around in Jersey should be the first thing on your list when you're planning your holiday. While Hiring a car is the best way to see the island, and the bus network is quite comprehensive and easy to use, getting a taxi is easier than it used to be thanks to the Jersey Taxi App.
This is the only app that has access to the 90+ public rank taxis, which are cheaper than private hire, all metered with controlled fares
Jersey Weather Radar - while the weather forecast on your phone might give you a (sometimes) accurate forecast, Jersey's weather can be changeable... to say the least! Thanks to Jersey Met Office, you can check out the weather radar to see when the rains will come.
Airport Visibility - Live like a local and become a fog obsessive. Jersey is notorious for foggy mornings, and due to the length of the runway, proximity to the airport buildings or lack of sophisticated landing equipment (which reason is accurate is one for debate, I'm sure someone knows!), planes are unlikely to land if visibility is under 500 metres. This leads to delays and cancellations. Ask any local and they'll be able to tell you stories of cancelled holidays or days spent stuck at Gatwick waiting for the fog to clear before they can fly home.
Check the visibility before you leave for the airport, but remeber, the fog can clear a quickly as it arrives!
Airport Runway Webcam - and for a more up to date view, get a snapshot of the runway updated every few minutes. Top tip.. if you can't see the shurch spire, then either can the pilots.. so the planes won't be landing!
Jersey Live Bus Tracking - this is a cracker. during the holidays, when traffic increases, the buses can become very unpredictable, this site gives completely up to date information on the location of every public bus on the island.
Jersey Tide Times - you may have heard that Jersey has one of the most variable tidal ranges in the world, ranging from 1 to 12 metres on a 'spring tide'. Checking the tide times in advance will help you plan your beach trip (1 metre tide means the beach an stretch out half a kilometre. 12 means the sea will be up to the sea wall.. so no beach time!
Jersey Satellite Image - Another for weather watchers. While the radar will help you to avoid rain, this tool will help you see when the sun is coming out.
Pay By Phone - Jersey has catapaulted itself into the 21st Century and now allows parking in public carpark to be done through an app. Easier than the old scratchard system and you can extend your parking if needed.
